Educational Philosophy

pexels-photo-267885.jpegThree statements sum up my educational philosophy:

►  Practice makes permanent.

►  Students do well if they can.

►  It takes a village.

With every lesson I create and with every student, parent, and colleague I interact, these three statements guide me.   The classroom climate, methods of instruction, curriculum, and interpersonal relationships I cultivate –in and out of the classroom –must work in synchronicity to foster a high level of student achievement,  self-esteem and self-efficacy.

By taking the time to know my students– how each learns and communicates– I engender trust so the hard work of developing skills and acquiring knowledge is done in a safe and supportive environment.   I incorporate rigor and set high expectations for all while offering the needed scaffolding, support, and practice so students can realize success and meaningful progress.

By building partnerships with parents and guardians, I create a school-to-home network of support for me and my students.  Only when I understand the paradigms which have shaped students will I be better able to reach and teach them.

By cultivating positive professional relationships, I contribute to a culture of teamwork, collaboration and respect.  Seasoned and novice teachers alike have keen insights and experience to offer which can only serve to better my own practice.

Throughout all my interactions, I strive to maintain a positive disposition, look for successes, and remain flexible. After all, it is not about me.  It’s about the students.
